Each year we venture up to Woodford Folk Festival for the new year’s break. This year we had only a handful of us. Yes we got there on Christmas Day. Lining up on the hill, with the sun trying to get through the clouds. Which left me bright red. Once through the gates, it was off to find a campsite.
Campsite hunting has become, somewhere near the usual spot. Every year we have camped pretty much in the same area, near the lake on Mohammad Ally. This year their was no fighting with other woodfordians, as the campsites were all very spread out. With most cars getting bogged and giving up. Which meant where the car was stuck is where you are camping. Yes it happened frequently. Our chosen spot, was alot damper then previous years. ”with over 2.3m of rainfall in 2010″ to quote Bill Hauritz (Festival Bossman). The ground was nice and soft, thus very easy to get the pegs in. But the water was still coming up through the bottom of the tent.
This year most of the Brisbane team were just coming up for the 30th/31st of December. Yes to see Dan Mangen play. Also, what a great way to spend New Years. This year at woodford it did not rain for those couple of days days! Still plenty of mud and water lying around the place. It was nice to see the sun.
The survial guide to the campsite was pretty minimal
- Always wear your gumboots – as you will get stuck in the mud. A few shoes did go missing. Always wear your gumboots up to the toilets/showers as it was twice as bad as the campsite.
- Socks are good! Two pairs of socks at one time is even better
- Booze – Red wine and Whiskey, keep those cold nights away. As well to make your forget how bad the campsite was, disguise the smell.
Overall a merry Woodford was had by all. The music this year was fantastic. Bands I recommend - The Crooked Fiddle Band, Old Man Luedecke, Michelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen and The Whitetop Mountaineers.
