Dinner with Friends in Brisbane

by Lizzie Moult on October 12, 2012

It’s not often someone else cooks me dinner in their home or even at my house. Last week I was treated by some good friends a curry dinner, carrot salad, banana & coconut, raita and poppadoms from Jamie’s 30min meal cookbook. I was to arrive at 7pm for dinner, I did not need to bring anything except wine of course.

Through the door, I noted that dinner was ready to be eaten, nothing needed to be done. No one was hovering around the kitchen in the last minute dash to put everything together. I would normally encounter twenty questions while people are cooking, help with last minute bits and end up chopping all the onions.

Spoilt by sitting down at the table and pouring myself a glass of wine, I relaxed. I felt loved, it was an unusual feeling to have while waiting for a meal. I was not needed in the kitchen, just my company requested at the table. I have still been thinking about this occasion and how special it was, a rare occasion, but I loved it.

Since then I have questioned my kitchen ethics at home. I know that I have worked in kitchens for over ten years, but you could make me a hot dog and I would be happy. Maybe I am super fussy because I know what I like and how to make it. I wonder if I am hard to please because I was a chef? I have to say that I also have disasters in the kitchen, no one is perfect you know.

As a food blogger, chef, avid foodie do you find that your friends or family are scared to invite you around for dinner? Out of them who has the balls to cook for you?

BIG THANKS to Gemma, Verena and Melody for taking the time to cook me dinner. It was a great meal that was enjoyed by family and friends – Lily and Roy were at the table too. I am still warm and fuzzy with the thought of your dinner goodness. THANK YOU!
