The Velo Project, Mooloolaba

It’s rare for me to get excited about a place to eat here on the Sunshine Coast that is worth sharing. The Velo Project is a funky cafe in the back streets of Mooloolaba, tucked away in suburbia. You would never drive past it, unless you lived in the area. I was taken there for breakfast by a friend of mine and loved it. Hence I have been back since.

The Velo Project uses some of Australia’s best products in store, while some of the fresh produce comes from local farmers in the area. Now I love a place that supports a farmer, since I am a farmer. The food is all fresh and is of high quality, no questions about cage eggs or ethical meats necessary. Eating out for us can be hard, I am use to the freshness of the produce from our own place so to be able to meet friends out for a breakfast somewhere that supports what I believe in makes choosing breakfast easy.

After my first visit, I dragged our good friends Benjie and Hugo out for breakfast. It’s the first time we have gone out for a meal together as we usually opt for home cooked organic meals together. We all tried and sampled different items on the breakfast menu. Hugo is from France and I was really interested in what he thought about the crepes on the menu. The winning crepe of course was the simplest lemon and sugar. The meal servings are generous which is perfect for those who are about to set out and do a days work. Nothing worse than walking away hungry from a restaurant.

The coffee also deserves a mention. Next time I go I will have to save myself and try lunch. It’s hard to get past a decent breakfast sometimes. We went on a Saturday and found that it was not to bad to get get a table, there are seats out front, inside and in the courtyard out the back. Meals don’t take too long to come out, you do have to remember that they do make everything fresh so it is not fast food. The atmosphere is perfect for a kick of inspiration if you feel the need to work on your laptop or going back to the office. The retro vibe and rustic furnishings make this place really cozy, some place you feel welcome to come back to.

I’ll be staying up the Sunshine Coast in a few weeks…will definitely give Velo a try. Sounds like ethical eating to me!

Isn’t the Velo Project such a find Lizzie? I went there with my hubby for breakfast and the food was so fresh I agree. The flavour combinations are mouth watering and the space itself is so interesting with all the retro bits and bobs.

Sounds like a good place! You can’t beat fresh, good ingredients simply handled and properly prepared. Good stuff — thanks.
