On the weekend we got dolled up to enjoy some meat and music at the Bangalow BBQ & Bluegrass Festival. Our first festival since moving to the area, we were thrilled when it involved our favourite things, meat cooked over coals or smoked and bluegrass music.
The festival takes place at the Bangalow showgrounds right in the heart of town and the main oval was a circle of BBQ enthusiasts. Like the chap above from Hillbilly Barbecue. Each team were cooking up bbq treats for the punters from pork, beef, chicken and ribs to be voted on.
This is serious. Each team were competing to win the championship of the best barbeque cook-off. Each time you grabbed a plate to try you had to vote on it. Each plate of glorious meat was served up with a little salad and a bread roll.
All the proceeds of the Bangalow BBQ & Bluegrass festival go towards supporting local Arts & Cultural initiatives in the area. Have I moved to the right place or what?
Beef brisket from JR’s Smokehouse
And the WINNERS: BLVD BBQ
I have to say as food events go. It was one of the most relaxed days and great for the kids and little ones. Bring your picnic blanket, hat and your dancing shoes next year for another round of the Bangalow BBQ & Bluegrass festival – we will be going again for sure.
