Black Myrtle Cafe sits on the main street of  Woombye which is a small historic town on the outskirts of Nambour in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Conveniently located next door to our closest laundromat offering us lunch while we wait for our washing. The cafe offers free wi-fi so you can sit back and sip your coffee and check your emails.

No need to rush off, this place is relaxing just like the owners, husband and wife duo Craig & Robyn. Their friendly smiles greet you as soon as you step in the door making you feel welcome, you can sit at the bar and catch up on the local news while you wait for your takeaway coffee.

Craig and Robyn are both trained chefs and offer a norther American twist to the menu. They both make all the food from cakes, slices to lemon butter to lasagna and moussaka. The club house sandwich is popular with the regular customers along with the gluten free eggs benny.

American Ice-Coffee  – $4.20

Our favourite spot is to sit outside the cafe to watch people stroll by. The tables decorated with freshly cut flowers, the decor is a mix of wood and retro pieces. The chairs are comfy and bring back memories of my childhood with the bright orange colour. As the days have been getting warmer, Roy’s coffee order has switched to an ice-coffee. At Black Myrtle Cafe they have an American inspired iced coffee that has coffee, milk and ice. Floating on top are coffee ice cubes, so when the ice starts to melt the coffee stays just as strong.

Pork Pot Pie with Salad  – $13

The menu is always changing offering new specials for breakfast and lunch. Today we noted that they had a pork pot pie, how could Roy refuse to eat that. Served up with salad with in-house cooked beetroot on top. Last time we came here Roy ate the soup of the day and I had the salmon open grill which was fantastic. Yet last time I really wanted to try their triple cooked chips with the burger.

This time around I ordered the burger it came with all the trimmings, bacon, onion, mushroom, a huge beef pattie and salad. It came out as an open burger, once the burger lid was closed and your two hands firmly wrapped around it you know that there is no stopping. I like burgers that are messy, I like them when they are full and I like that I don’t have to share because if I pass it over who knows what will fall out. I don’t want to miss out on anything.

Hamburger with bacon, cheese and mushrooms with triple cooked chips  – $11

After lunch we managed to squeeze in some cakes. I fell in love with the zucchini cake last time we were here, now I seem to crave it and can’t change my order. The zucchini cake is served warm with the a lime icing over the top that melts and adds an extra zing to each bite. Roy fell in love with the lemon meringue cheesecake the texture was soft yet it almost dissolves on your tongue as you eat it, as if there is lemon sherbet tucked away in there somewhere.
